Porter
is a community North of Houston and verges on the piney woods.
It's
pretty much out in the boonies as its growth has been held
down by the poorly percolating, gumbo type soil. These woods
are just full of people although it may not be obvious to the
casual observer.
It is transected, South to North, by US 59, which will become US 69 being considerably upgraded in that transformation. Our major (only) East /West highway is Texas FM 1314, two lanes which are going commercial at warp speed and are overdue for widening to four lanes.
House trailers
are moving into the periphery of our rural subdivision, which
is depressing, but, I'm afraid that was the price paid
for escaping suburbia and its restrictions.
Much of it remains thickly wooded with pine, sweet gum, oaks and smaller trees. There are deer, feral hogs, coyotes, armadillos, hawks, occasional eagles plus the odd redneck.
It's
beautiful.
